The proposal for a one-year hiatus on earmarks is a sham.

It’s an empty campaign promise offered up by a desperate candidate trying to win re-election in the fall. And Ken Calvert, the King of Pork, has a record on earmarks that speaks for itself.

• Last year Calvert sponsored or co-sponsored over $31 million worth of earmarks.
• Calvert has landed on a non-partisan watchdog group's Most Corrupt Members of Congress list four years running because of land deals related to earmarks he made for personal gain.
• FOX News featured Calvert in their special, Porked: Earmarks for Profit, in which they detail Calvert’s abuse of the earmark system to help line his pockets at taxpayer expense

Congress needs to ban earmarks all together. That is genuine reform for which I will fight. And a promise you can believe in.
